The
NYAA offers a league for pre-Kindergarten soccer players
aged 3 ˝ to 5 years old. The league is aimed towards
developing an interest for the game and to start
building a foundation of basic soccer skills,
interaction with other kids, and most importantly to
have some fun. The PreK league is also a great way to
introduce “team sports” to your youngster.
The league is run by parents
and volunteers who coach practices and scrimmages. Also, the NYAA invites the
UK Elite each season to have special practice sessions. The UK Elite is a
prestigious professional soccer organization that offers teaching and coaching
to children of all ages. The emphasis in the PreK league is on having fun while
learning some fundamentals.
The PreK program is held twice
per year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. The registration dates and
cost information are available on the website. Practice times are 5:30-6:30 and
are held once per week for eight weeks. The dates and schedule for the season
are announced several weeks before the first practice.
For a child to play, all that
is required are shin guards (mandatory), a water bottle, sneakers or cleats, a
participating parent/adult, and most importantly a fun attitude. Players will
receive a ball, a pair of soccer socks, and a shirt on the first day of practice
that they can keep.
